About Us

The Krio Descendants Union Australia (KDU AUS) is a not-for-profit organisation registered in NSW, Australia. We unite to support and empower individuals of Krio origin in Australia and Sierra Leone.

This organisation is committed to fostering cultural connections, providing assistance, and promoting the wellbeing of our community members in both nations. Our by-laws govern our operations and guide our efforts to create positive change, preserve our heritage, and build a strong, supportive network for generations to come.

Our Mission

The purpose and mission of KDU Australia is to reconnect to our familial community, and to enhance the cultural heritage of the Krios of Sierra Leone through reflection, education, and charitable giving.

Our Goals:

  • Foster and celebrate Krio culture in Australia, promoting its traditions, language, and heritage through community events, education, and cultural exchanges.
  • Establish and promote Krio language literacy programs across Australia, offering classes, workshops, and resources for reading and writing skills development.
  • Nurture the personal and professional growth of Sierra Leoneans in Australia through mentorship, networking opportunities, and skill-development programs.
  • Build bridges between Krios and other Australian communities, fostering cultural exchange, mutual respect, and friendships through diverse social events.
  • Offer non-financial assistance to members, including providing references, writing support letters, and facilitating social support networks as needed.
  • Provide support to KDU Global for mutually agreed projects in Sierra Leone aimed at the development, improvement, or restoration of Krio culture within specified communities.
